The KTM manual (for all the bikes I own) tells you to use some weird Motorex biodegradeable hydraulic oil and to never mix with mineral oil and to never refil with mineral oil. but Magura recommends mineral oil in their clutches and Magura mineral oil is what my KTM dealer sells and says to use. This is the case for my 05 450 EXC and my 04 625 SXC. The "10W-30 Gear Oil" they sold you is a transmission specific oil and is likely going to perform just fine in your transmission. The 15W-50 engine oil recommended in the manual is in there for a few reasons. The biggest one is because it meets the JASO MA specification. For liability purposes KTM needs to be able to point to a performance spec

Above 250 degrees oils begin to break-down and become less effective. Synthetics help but also have their own unique properties. An oil cooler helps with oil temps and increases capacity, helping prevent high temp break-down and lengthens drain intervals. The cooling system is how most of the heat is removed.
