It's pretty good in my experience. I used to live upstate and we averaged ~80" of snow every year, so I'm used to driving in a lot of snow. Just drove through the mountains in CO a few weeks back and got hit by a surprise snow storm. The X1 performed great, don't think I really ever lost traction. Around town is the same story.

The hard fact was that the X1 was driven every day on snow and ice, ie. conditions that many cars in the UK have been driven in for a number of weeks now. We like the X1, for being a small 4×4 that is good to drive and that has relatively low emissions, and we really want to report that the X1 performed well in its snow driving test.

The xdrive is great, especially with winter tires. Where you can get into trouble is the ground clearance. I beached my 528xi a few times on side roads in Canada. Always got out though. xDrive and snow tires. You'll be fine as long as you know how to drive in the snow.

If you think that AWD will help you with cornering in rain or snow, you are mistaken, good tries and suspension do a lot more for you. Testdrive an ICE car BMW 340 and a 340 with X-Drive, I did and honestly the RWD handles better in rain, because the steering angle is better when you have no drag at the front wheels.
